Job Title: Wiigiwaam Evening/Night Housing Support Mentor

Wage: $15.72 – 18.40/hour

Description: Oshki-Giizhig is an Indigenous-based non-profit organization, whose vision is a healthy community built on Indigenous journeys towards wellness. Our mission is to walk beside, advocate and support people affected by FASD and/or other developmental disorders. Strengthened by cultural practices and traditional teachings, support will assist in restoring balance to individuals and the community affected by trauma and violence.

The Wiigiwaam Housing Program provides supports within a home environment to individuals in Winnipeg who are 16 years of age or older, living with FASD and/or other disorders. This position will be roving from our Wiigiwaam houses, and on-call when needed between homes.

Qualifications: Post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate in social services, social justice, Indigenous studies, health related and/or a combination of pertinent experiences in these areas. Experiences with cultural activities and understanding of Indigenous concepts of care and support. Knowledge of mental health issues. Driver’s License and access to transportation.

Responsibilities: Providing direct service to program participants in a home includes: maintaining connections and healthy relationships, securing and maintaining safe housing, acquiring income and assisting with finances, navigating justice system, transport and environmental accommodations, assisting with medical and treatment regiments, supporting reconciliation when conflicts arise, traditional and cultural healing activities. Please note this is a full-time position. The working hours of this position are Thursday to Monday 7:00 pm to 3:00 am.
