Support Mentor (Walking Stick Community Supports) Wage: 15.86-18.57/hour
Oshki-Giizhig is an Indigenous-based non-profit organization. Our vision is a healthy community built on Indigenous journeys towards wellness. Our mission is to walk beside, advocate and support people living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and or other disorders. Strengthened by cultural practices and traditional teachings, supports will assist in restoring balance to individuals and the community affected by trauma and violence. Support Programs serve individuals who live in Winnipeg, are 16 years of age or older, living with FASD and/or other disorders.

The Support Mentor will provide direct service to program participants in the community including: maintaining connections and healthy relationships, securing and maintaining safe housing, acquiring income and assisting with finances, navigating justice system, transport and environmental accommodations, assisting with medical and treatment regiments, supporting reconciliation when conflicts arise, traditional and cultural healing activates. Oshki-Giizhig is committed to supporting the development of strong and healthy communities. Post-secondary degree in social work, social justice, Indigenous studies, health related and/or a combination of pertinent experiences in these areas. Experiences with cultural activities and understanding of Indigenous concepts of care and support. Knowledge of traditional teachings, experience facilitating group activities and understanding of indigenous concepts of care and support. Knowledge of disabilities, disorders and mental health issues. Driver’s License and access to transportation.
